The law enforcement community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of K9 Cyrus, who passed away on June 17, 2026, after a sudden medical emergency and a courageous three-day fight for survival.
Cyrus became unexpectedly ill at the end of his shift on June 14 and was rushed for emergency treatment before being life-flighted to a specialty veterinary center in Las Vegas. Despite the efforts of veterinary teams and the unwavering support of his handler and family, the 7-year-old Belgian Malinois sadly lost his battle.
Since joining the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in 2020, K9 Cyrus dedicated his life to protecting others. During his remarkable career, he assisted in more than 360 deployments, helped make 322 arrests, and played a role in removing over 2,000 pounds of illegal narcotics from communities. He also served alongside federal partners with Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S. Marshals Service.
Beyond the badge, Cyrus was known for his energetic spirit and lovable personality, bringing smiles to those around him with his signature kennel spins.
