Tonight, many hearts are heavy as we remember a brave member of the NYPD Emergency Services Unit.
K-9 Tommy has reached the end of his watch.
His name carried a powerful legacy.
Tommy was named in honor of Police Officer Thomas Langone, a hero who lost his life while rescuing victims in the rubble of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
And every day he served the streets of New York…
Tommy lived up to that name.
Through dangerous calls.
Through long nights.
Through moments when courage mattered most.
He stood beside his handler with unwavering loyalty.
Fearless.
Faithful.
Ready for whatever the next call would bring.
But to his handler, Tommy was more than a working K-9.
He was a partner.
A protector.
A best friend who shared every shift and every challenge.
Today that leash hangs still…
But the bond between them will never fade.
New York has lost one of its bravest four-legged guardians.
Yet his legacy of loyalty and service will live on in the department and the city he helped protect.
Rest easy now, K-9 Tommy.
