Our hearts are heavy today as we ask the entire nation to join us in sending urgent prayers and strength to a brave four-legged officer fighting for his life right now.
Moments ago, a Columbus Police Department K-9 was critically injured after being shot while protecting his fellow officers and community in the line of duty. Because of the sheer severity of his injuries, emergency medical teams made the critical decision to airlift the heroic pup directly to Auburn University’s Emergency Veterinary Hospital for specialized, life-saving trauma surgery.
When a crisis hits, these incredible working dogs do not hesitate. They willingly run toward danger, taking the threats meant for their human partners and standing as an iron shield for public safety. Today, this beautiful K-9 paid the ultimate price to protect his team.
The coming hours are absolutely critical as the elite veterinary surgical team at Auburn works tirelessly to stabilize our furry hero. The bond between a K-9 and their handler is unbreakable, and we can only imagine the heartbreak and anxiety his department is experiencing as they wait outside the hospital doors.
